Ageless Athlete Training System with James "Smitty" Smith
October 13, 2021
GUEST SPEAKER: James “Smitty” Smith
LESSON: AGELESS ATHLETE TRAINING SYSTEM
GOOD COACH – Effective session to how well the client is moving and understands 90% of what is written for the workout won’t be what the client does
OVERVIEW – FOUNDATIONS 1-4
1. Quality of Movement
2. Programming Strategies
3. Advanced Program Design
4. Advanced Program Model Applying the Ageless Athlete Ageless Athlete is for EVERYONE!
MISSION - Training longevity, Improved Durability, Establishing a movement reserve, Making light weights feel heavy, Do no harm Strength training makes the body rigid.
GOAL - Continued Progression & Training Longevity, Quality of Movement TRUMPS everything
How do we create a great training effect – getting stronger and building muscle – with submaximal weight?
Movement = P + ROM + DMC Movement = Position (alignment) + Range of Motion (pattern) + Dynamic Motor Control (stability)
CPPS CRITERIA MODEL – 2 Criteria - Janda’s UCS/LCS, JBJ Model (Joint by Joint)
ESSENTIALS QUESTIONS OF WHERE TO START - What is tight? What is weak? Where is the poor “loaded” movement?
Poor movement = either a technique issue, a weakness or a restriction
BIGGEST PROBLEMS - Address these weak & tight issues, Position, Range of Motion, Dynamic Motor Control (DMC)
STRATEGIES – Powerbuilding (powerlifting + body building), 100% Maximum Effect (ME) => 90% of 1 RM, Slow & Steady Progression (Load vs Quality vs Variety), 3-4 Week Wave
GOAL – Position, Full ROM w/o pain, Stability/DMC, Capacity, Durability, Program across of Movement Competency Continuum
MOVEMENT COMPETENCY CONTINUUM HOW TO MODIFY INTENSITY AGELESS ATHLETE:
1) CPPS 2) PATTERN 3) MOBILIZE 4) ACTIVATE 5) STRENGTH TRAINING 6) AGELESS ATHLETE PROTOCOLS
QUESTIONS:
Tom Langton: Trying to squeeze so much into the assessment process, and you discussed a 3-part assessment. What do you think is the most important stuff to hit during the assessment?
